White Sage or Salvia meaning “to save” may be the most healing herb known to mankind. Salvia , the Santa Barbara white sage, is no exception. The Chumash Native Americans used this plant to treat sprains and sore muscles, cure colds and congestion, stop sweating, and for ceremonial purposes.

The precious essential oil from this plant’s leaves and flowers stimulating and cleansing to the skin, soothing to sore muscles, and restorative to skin and hair. The oil is also a stimulant for the nervous system, metabolism, and vital centers, and is antiseptic, antiviral, and antibacterial.

Our essential oils are distilled from highly medicinal plants native to Santa Barbara, California. These plants have a rich ethnobotanical history being used by the California Native Americans, Spanish settlers, and even physicians. Many are used for ceremonial, healing, and spiritual purposes and are considered sacred herbs. California White Sage, Mugwort, and Sagebrush are three such herbs used to cleanse, purify, and protect the body, mind, and spirit. Infuse essential oils in the air through an atomizer or in warm water.

In Santa Barbara, California, there are numerous local wild endemic and naturalized medicinal herbs. Many of them are rarely used or only discussed as ethnobotany of the past. Refugio Gardens steam distills their own local essential oils such as White sage, Honeybutton sage, Hummingbird sage, Goldenbush, Woolly blue curls, and California Artemisia in small batches to ensure a highly therapeutic oil that can be used directly on the skin or in a diffuser to scent a room.
